Description

Amazing grasshopper - only saw one with this coloration/pattern in all of the Chilcotins so far! High alpine. Perhaps a Buckellacris. @jimmylegs any ideas?

Description

6mm, found under douglas fir bark in old growth forest. Having a hard time figuring this one out. Resembles Silvanidae / Cucujidae but none of the options seem to have a sufficiently elongated pronotum with the parallel depressions. Very curious beetle.

Description

Flowers in pairs, large shrubs up to 2-3m tall.. A bit puzzled by this one - widespread along the canyon rim in shaded areas. Flower resembles P. andersonii but the leaves are far too round for that one..

Description

Found in tundra (mountain top).
Perennial herb that forms a cushion (4.3x2.6 cm).
Leaves: Basal and odd*pinnately compound (Length ca. 1.5 cm). Soft white hair on upper surface- less hairy bellow.
Leaflets more oblong than elliptic. Margins are rolled downward to underside. Up to ca. 4- 5 mm long.
*Inflorescence
pea-like flowers. Corollas purple, up to 0.8-0.9 mm long. Calyces bell-shaped with mostly appressed dark hairs, tube up to 5-6 mm long.

Description

Growing on a fairly steep talus slope. Fascinating growth habit for Delphinium.

Species account for closest match here, D. antoninum - also occurring on talus slopes: https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/eflora/eflora_display.php?tid=22459. All the individuals we found on this talus slope had white sepals while the description in Jepson mentions blue. D. andersonii is a possibility as well: https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/eflora/eflora_display.php?tid=22437.

A major discovery for me; with no reports of live specimens since 2007 - I was able to locate a population living at 1680 masl. The species appears to be fossorial, therefore extremely hard to spot. Unfortunately the location is a small relict of privately-owned cloud forest, surrounded by cattle fields.

5mm, found under hardwood bark above a creek. Phenomenal beetle, with exposed abdominal segments, a pair of ocelli, and a rostrate head!

Description

Visiting the creek for a drink while eating a kill nearby. The last photo through the brambles shows where the Jaguar was eating the kill about 30 feet from Anangu creek. Incredibly lucky to observe this humbling animal from 15-20 feet away for ~20 minutes!

Would be quite a range extension but growth habit and subequal involucre matches, seeming to rule out Erigeron sp. Found in an alpine meadow around 6000ft. Stood out from all the Subalpine fleabane we walked by all day with the deep purple coloration and shorter stature.

Description

A new disjunct apparently, as the previously furthest south disjunct in B.C. was known from the Itcha range much further north in the Chilcotin. Found in a ~small area on the Dil-Dil plateau between Big Creek and Vic Lake. See the eflora entry here: https://linnet.geog.ubc.ca/Atlas/Atlas.aspx?sciname=Saxifraga%20flagellaris.
