Swampy alluvial woods near pools of open water. Under Cephalanthus occidentalis, with Rhynchospora corniculata, Saururus, Peltandra, Smilax and Taxodium close by. With Carex gigantea (ELC1215) in slightly wetter habitat (but considerable overlap). Pente: nulle, Exposition: NA, Drainage: mauvais.

Individu parasité par des pucerons, potentielle explication pour la morphologie atypique des épis. Spécimen du puceron: Favret, Colin # 4055, déposé dans la Collection entomologique Ouellet-Robert https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/135480399.
Échantillon dans le gel de silice. Échantillon gardé vivant au jardin botanique.

Marécage à Acer saccharinum. Sol meuble. Avec Carex lupulina typiques, Carex retrorsa, Lobelia cardinalis. Carex comosa dans le même habitat mais à plusieurs dizaines de mètres. Pente: nulle, Exposition: NA, Drainage: mauvais. Une seule touffe montre cette morphologie extrême.

Description

I am confused about the nomenclature with this one between B. comosa and B. tripartita. It certainly keys well to B. comosa in Michigan Flora. "Achenes retrorsely barbed on the margins their entire length (smooth and glabrous on the faces), achenes 3-awned and outer phyllaries are large and foliaceous".

Appears to be Carex limosa x magellanica ssp. irrigua. Essentially like C. limosa but with pistillate scales extending well beyond perigynia and having some dark purple colouration - both characters of C. magellanica. Both putative parents present abundantly.
