Description
interesting bird
I don't want to jump to conclusions but there's a lot about this individual that looks like it could be a gray heron
-relatively more petite structure and shorter bill
-smaller size in comparison to juvenile great blue heron
-pale lores
-grayish, not brown or reddish neck
-no obvious rufous color in the thighs or the bend of the wing (white thighs barely visible when zoomed in)
-less obvious breast plumes
-upperside color more of a pale bluish-gray instead of dark slaty gray

Description
peculiar curled leaf folds at the leaf apices of a willow (possibly S. laevigata? It's not Goodding's or Arroyo). At least 3-4 more on the same plant
I unrolled one and looks like there's a sawfly larva inside with a lot of frass
Doesn't look like the same willow leaf folding Euura observations on iNat, which are mostly on the leaf margins and not the apex

Description
the bird is sitting in a weird, twisted position in the water so the white isn't the side of the body, but rather its underside (you can kind of see its right foot held up over its body in some of these shots)

q-kelloggii-acorn-cup-gall-wasp? not sure what oak this is but I think it's Q. berberidifolia? That isn't listed as one of the hosts on gallformers though
these deformed acorns were pretty common in this particular hill

Description
This terrestrial orchid was first seen growing in the pot pictured. This species was a "weed" in an orchid I purchased from a company based in FL with their headquarters in South America. It began as a single individual and now has multiplied into six individuals. Also, two small plants were seen outside of the greenhouse but not currently in flower. I will be interested to see if it overwinters and persists another year. I'm not certain if they were outside the greenhouse in previous years. This observation could be considered a waif.
2023 winter update: After multiple frosts and freezes all leaves are dead. I'll be watching this spring and summer to see if any plants resprout from roots.

While doing homework on a bench, this chipmunk jumped on to see what I was doing. I let her take a look but she only got to the search bar and gave up. So I put on some of my chipmunk pictures for her to see. Posed for observation https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/129984459
