What

River Mangrove (Aegiceras corniculatum)

Observer

shiwalee

Date

January 5, 2020 04:32 PM IST

Description

few observations of Aegiceras corniculatum from mangrove habitat near Taloja river @ Kharghar(navi mumbai).
Here an interesting habit of this mangroves can be seen. The plants were kind of submerged in water, so their habit was adapted to these conditions.
root system developed to adapt with 'submerged in water' conditions and also vegetative growth of plant from root is also seen in above photos.
Aegiceras corniculatum is shrub, so it's habit remains shrub but in these conditions the plant has grown with more dense and bushy branches(more round shaped and thick bush) close to each other, unlike the way it grows in mangrove soil , with more spread-out, more spaced out branches.
