Description
There were at least two otters. Got really lucky with this shot. Did not get another opportunity like this but they did hang out in the area for a little while. Barely caught glimpses of them as the swam around.

Substrate: Lignicolous
Ecology: Old growth forest/wetland nesting within a metropolitan area.
Notes: Found adjacent trail on downed tree. Surprised to apothecia either disintegrating or having been worn down exposing the namesake blood-red layer within.

Thallus yolk yellow, lower surface partly lacking cortex (photo #3) (C. concolor is +/- corticate below and is infrequent in the PNW)
