A battle of the spinifex titans. The skink is a Ctenotus grandis. The goanna had a prefect grip so the skink could not bite back. Quoll traps to check so not sure what happened. Uploaded the skink separately.

Adult V. salvator was observed to be eating a small Indian civet (Viverricula indica). The lizard ate the civet whole, but there was no way to tell if this was a predation event or a scavenge.

Description
How sad, injured/dead on the road. It was about 30 to 40cm long. I thought it was an injured Blue-tongue on the road so we did a u-turn & went back to have a look at it, then I saw it was like a little goanna with an odd tail. Some other travellers who stopped moved it off the road & buried the eggs, out in the middle of nowhere on the road near Laura QLD. This is in Savannah country.

Description
A lace monitor hasn't been noticed by anyone here before - that's in over thirty years. As it meandered across the block the resident birds noisily bustled around trying to see it off. A spotted quail-thrush patiently tailed it on foot at a safe distance. It left after a couple of days and hasn't returned.
