Description

Xanthomendoza fallax (liquen resplandor solar encapuchado) es un pequeño liquen folioso de color amarillo anaranjado a rojo anaranjado que crece en la corteza o rara vez en la roca o el hueso. [1] Se encuentra en todo el mundo excepto en áreas muy secas, con 10 especies comunes en América del Norte. [1] [2]: 130 [3] El cuerpo no fructífero (talo) crece en rosetas de hasta 3 cm de diámetro. [2] [ 3] Las rosetas a veces se fusionan entre sí. [3] Los lóbulos pueden aparecer divididos en las puntas. A veces se adhiere firmemente al sustrato (adnato) y otras no. [2] [3] Los cuerpos fructíferos (apotecios) son lecanorinos, lo que significa que tienen forma de disco con un anillo o borde de tejido alrededor del disco que está hecho de tejido similar al talo. [2] Las puntas de los lóbulos forman soralia en forma de capucha que produce soredia polvorienta de color amarillo verdoso. [2] Prefiere crecer en corteza de olmo o roble, pero también se puede encontrar en rocas, huesos u otros tipos de madera. [2] Las pruebas de manchas de liquen en la superficie son K + violeta, C-, KC- y P -. [2]
