Sorry for the poor image quality. They're of the display of my friend's DSLR. I think this is a fox sparrow but it looks like a red fox sparrow which doesn't make sense from the subspecies range map. Could it be an American tree or a song sparrow? Or even a swamp sparrow?
There were two of them. I'm pretty sure I saw a black/dark rump while one was preening. The habitat is a small patch of tall grass marsh near the beach. It sang once but was hard to hear over all the red-wing blackbirds. I don't think it sounded like a song sparrow but hard to be sure.
Thank you for your feedback! I'd love to figure what this is because I don't have many sparrows on my list but I don't want to add something new if I'm not sure.
