Presumably the same queen as yesterday (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/161924155) still gathering buckeye pollen.
Couldn't get a good picture as she was in the very top of the tree, but was able to confirm ID through binoculars.
Foraging on Prunus americana thicket in wet meadow.
On Mertensia virginica in wooded front yard. Very large and with very short hair, but also seems to have some yellow on the vertex so maybe it's a vagans (though I've seen other affinis queens with yellow patches on the vertex)?
gathering pollen on Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra)
Queen bee who seems to be maintaining access to a couple abandoned chipmunk holes on the north side of the house, just outside of the roof dripline. Large diversity of nearby spring-flowering plants.
Behavior has been happening for about 5 days. I imagine a nest is in the works.
Video available (not uploaded anywhere yet).
IN MY GARDEN! When I saw it, I ran inside, grabbed my camera and took almost 300 photos in case I never see it again.
A friend rescued this little one from a terrible rain storm puddle. I was thinking it may be a native bee. Thoughts?
Likely the same mite-festooned bee as https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/97255867 from 5 days earlier. I had to add this one since @bobmcd started a relevant project!
