Sensing opportunity, the Ringed Assassin Bug responded to the presence of an Eastern Yellowjacket by stalking it, but, as that Yellowjacket became aware of the threat and became defensive, the Assassin, realizing that it was over-matched, backed off to defend itself.

And not that it's definitive, but I've never seen niphon at this site, nor have I seen pine within at least 0.5 miles of it.

Unfortunately found dead in a window sill. Northernmost observation in VT on iNat. At least one good sized Common Hackberry in the immediate area.
