Description

On steep slopes along the Baker Preserve trail there are numerous dead and dying sword ferns. The fronds appear more pale and crispy, rather than brown, which may indicate drought stress rather than an instance of die-off. Aspect may play a role as there were healthy stands adjacent to the impacted one. I would estimate 1-2 acres of declining ferns in total, but spread out in several patches.
