Centipedes (Class Chilopoda)

Description

As I was picking at a huge log on the ground and watching as the wood crumbled to dirt, I noticed this little centipede crawling into a hole and was able to capture it crawling into safety.

A few days before, the rain left the trees and grass muddy, so as I walked along the trail, many bugs and worms were roaming around the area.

I read on Wikipedia that centipedes can have a varying number of legs and most of them are not that harmful to humans. What I found interesting was that they are usually found in dead wood and under stones, where I happened to spot many of them.

This is a type of centipede you find outside in the trees, while most of us are used to seeing the type that love to crawl in our basements.
