Was found buried approx 2 ft below soil surface while digging for work purposes

Adult female; completely dark plastron, could be super old or plastron could just be melanistic. Carapace also mostly lacking usual yellow mottling. Face not visible due to being fully retracted for entirety of handling time. Tagged for study and released. Unsure if a plastron pigmented like this has been observed before. This same individual had the same coloration when first observed 11 years ago.
