I've often seen harvester ants on our dog walks -but for whatever reason have not stopped and taken a photo until today. Probably because until recently I didn't have a 10x macro lens attachment for my phone, which helps if you primarily are interested in the smaller life forms. And for this ant I knew it would help if I could capture: 2 nodes, grooves on head, and of course the psammophore or "beard" under its head.
This individual ant seemed to be having trouble walking. From the photos, I can see one leg (I think) did not articulate correctly. It made for some "atypical" ant photos since the ant could not walk along a narrow leaf without falling off.
