TAW Devine Lake May 2016

Three of us ventured out to the lake which is above average from recent rain. Monitoring began at 8:13 p.m. and lasted one hour. At 8:13 p.m. we were immediately serenaded by Blanchard Cricket Frogs and Green Treefrogs at a call index of 2. We attempted to wade into the shallow areas of the lake to find a treefrog but they were just far enough out that we could not access them. It was a windy night and none of my recordings were suitable. All of them had too much wind noise which overshadowed the calling of the frogs. Toward the end of the night both the Cricket Frogs and the Green Green Treefrogs reached a call index of 3 (9:13 p.m. to 9:18 p.m.) Cricket Frog post: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3130036

As the night was nearing an end Kathy McCormack netted a nice sized female American Bullfrog. Way to go Kathy! We got some nice pictures and the my posting can be found here: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3129831

As we approached the parking lot, we heard Cope's Grey Treefrogs calling from the wet weather pond in the field next to the parking lot. I attempted a recording, but was too far away. The frogs are barely audible on the recording, much less identifiable to species. They were calling at call index of 3.

Other herps seen: a water snake eating a frog and another water snake (Blotched water) making its way down the creek.

Water temp (F): 75
Air temp (F): 73 at first monitoring; 72 at second monitoring and 70 at last monitoring;
Relative humidity: 54
Wind: 2 at frog level, leaves rustle
Sky: Mostly cloudy
No. of people in party: 3
Total species: 4: American Bullfrog, Cope's Grey Treefrog; Green Treefrog; Blanchard Cricket Frog
