I too love bugs! :) And we're pretty lucky in TX to have quite a few entries in bugguide to help with ID's. Do you know how to use the advanced bugguide search?

http://bugguide.net/adv_search/bgsearch.php

On the 'taxon ID #' -- started writing in the general group of insects, better if you know the family, and then select TX. You can narrow it down more, but I like to leave it fairly broad. For instance, here are the mirids (plant bugs) documented from TX:
http://bugguide.net/adv_search/bgsearch.php?user=&taxon=94&description=&location%5B%5D=TX&county=&city_location=&adult=&immature=&male=&female=&representative=

It's quite nice to just scroll through to try to find the match.

i DO use the advanced search, helps narrow the field to the most-likelies. Then if i think i have a candidate, i'll snoop around in nearby taxon-space.
