Chromolaichma sedna (Marcus & Marcus, 1967) has been split

Hi Everyone,

A recent study, Layton & Wilson 2024, has split Chromolaichma sedna (Marcus & Marcus, 1967):
C. sedna: eastern Pacific
C. hemera: western Atlantic

More over, the authors discover ''extensive phylogeographic structure within C. hemera sp. nov. sensu lato, thereby refuting the hypothesis of a recent introduction'' and found ''significant rate heterogeneity among marine invertebrate genera that share a similar lifespan, reproductive mode and dispersal potential, suggesting that life history traits do not drive differences in mitochondrial rates''.

The new taxon was created on iNat and here is the paper:

Pleurobranchida News: first-time molecular evidence of all Pleurobranchida genera

Hi Everyone,

A recent study, first-time molecular evidence of all Pleurobranchida genera, brought some news and name changes:

  1. A new genus Tomoberthella:
Berthella martensi is now moved to Tomoberthella martensi

  2. The North Pacific Berthella clade transferred to Boreoberthella:

    • Berthella californica is now Boreoberthella californica
    • Berthella chacei is now Boreoberthella chacei
  3. The Berthella stellata group transferred to Pleurehdera:

    • Berthella andromeda is now Pleurehdera andromeda
    • Berthella nebula is now Pleurehdera nebula
    • Berthella pellucida is now Pleurehdera pellucida
    • Berthella postrema is now Pleurehdera postrema
    • Berthella stellata is now Pleurehdera stellata
    • Berthella strongi is now Pleurehdera strongi
    • Berthella vialactea is now Pleurehdera vialactea

I changed them automatically, so you don’t have to do anything.

Three name changes - ‘’The North Pacific Berthella clade transferred to Boreoberthella, and the Berthella stellata group to Pleurehdera’’:

  • Berthella californica is now Boreoberthella californica
  • Berthella chacei is now Boreoberthella chacei
  • Berthella strongi is now Pleurehdera strongi

The first nudibranch proven to be associated with Acropora has been described

Hi Everyone,

After Phestilla subodiosa, another Acroporidae coral eating nudibranch has been described.

The genus Okenia split: Some old synonymized genera Bermudella, Cargoa, and Ceratodoris are resurrected and a new genus, Naisdoris gen. nov., is described

Hi Everyone,

The genus Okenia includes most of the synonymized genera in Goniodorididae. The validity of synonyms has been re-evaluated in light of the available molecular data recently and 3 old genera Bermudella, Cargoa, and Ceratodoris are resurrected and a new genus, Naisdoris gen. nov., is described. Then, some moved into Goniodoridella.

New Split: Shedding light on a species complex within the genus Goniodoridella

Hi Everyone,

Part of Goniodoridella savignyi complex has finally been studied and three new species G. geminae n. sp., G. serrata n. sp. and G. unidonta n. sp. are described.
