What a variety

Just started to post fish photos from May 2017 Fiji trip as observations on iNat and I'm amazed as how many varieties of fish we saw. I started snorkeling in Hawaii and got hooked because of how many fish there were to see. But the astounding variety and colors of the fish around Fiji renews my interest in snorkeling yet again!

Have you looked closer to home, like the Bahamas, Virgins, or even off the east coast of Florida - all great snorkeling spots?

I've snorkeled in the Carribeans (St. Croix and Grand Cayman) when I lived on the East Coast. Never snorkeled in Florida but a close friend went in early May and snorkeled in the Keys and they were disappointed. Have you snorkeled the Gulf Coast?

My childhood was spent living in Biloxi, MS, first through the sixth grade. My family learned to snorkel, and to be honest, Mississippi is the worst place, but Florida was nice. Joe MDO, an iNat member went offshore of Ft Lauderdale. He went to a offshore park/reef and took tons of photos, including Tarpon and the like, just offshore. Here's his page:

Look through his observations for his snorkeling observations. Also, if you google his location, you an find out about the park and of course, the keys are close by, etc. But in my wife's and my experience, nothing beats the Bahamas - especially, the out islands like Long Island. And on Long Island there's Stella Maris. Nice.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have Belize, Indonesia, and Palau on my list of places to go snorkeling. I only get to take one vacation a year unless I can talk my husband into more.
