I am an ecosystem photographer and naturalist based out of Eugene, Oregon. During the summers I am the fire lookout at Carpenter Mountain, Oregon, on the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest/Willamette National Forest. Visit me at Carpenter Mtn if you are ever in Oregon.

I have a B.A. in Anthropology from WSU, Pullman, Washington. I was in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Sonar Technician (STG) in Anti-Submarine Warfare and was a wildland firefighter on hotshot and district engine crews. I was also an archaeologist for the BLM, Forest Service and NPS. I was born in Ellensburgh, WA and grew up in rural Montana, Idaho and Alaska.

I am not a trained systematist. My identifications for arthropods, fungi and a few others should be considered preliminary based on experience and studying online photos and local species lists. I am fascinated in all flora, fauna, geology, climate and love learning about ecosystems and ecology.

Aldo Leopold, John Muir, Thoreau and Emily Dickinson are my guiding stars...

YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED LOTS of observations from me. Over the last few weeks I have been uploading my past observations for the HJA and Carpenter Mtn. I have been the fire lookout at Carpenter since 2014 and I take notes on a LOT of things.
