I study baleen whales and small cetaceans, mainly in Scotland, Ireland and Cape Verde. When I'm not working as a boat driver / guide in polar waters, I'm often on research vessels, operating hydrophones and conducting visual surveys for cetaceans and seabirds. I am originally from Ireland but home is on the Hebridean Isle of Mull. I'm a keen forager (fungi, seaweed, nuts and berries), free-diver, sea-kayaker, surfer and hiker. I'm self employed but mostly work for Lindblad and National Geographic Expeditions and onboard the research vessel "Song of the Whale" (as a research associate).
