I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Marietta College in Ohio (1971) and Master of Forestry degree from Duke Univerisity (1974). Was forest entomologist for the Colorado State Forest Service from 1974-2005. Primary responsibility was overseeing all agency activities involving insects, especially mountain pine beetle. Affiliated with the Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity at Colorado State University where thousands of my collected specimens are deposited. Lifelong birder. Have been part of discovering four new state record birds for CO: Slaty-backed Gull, Tropical Parula, Brown-crested Flycatcher and Couch's Kingbird. Primary hobby within my hobby of birding is trying to determine what they eat. Write a column in the journal "Colorado Birds" titled "The Hungry Bird" (quarterly, 2010 to present), which reviews what is known about specific items in CO bird diets. Photographer and frequent public speaker. Other special interests are documenting impaled prey of Loggerhead Shrikes; Colorado odonates; crossbills and anything involving the natural history of my patches, Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins and the Lamar, CO. area.
