I am a glass artist + jewelry designer by trade, exhibiting ( pre-pandemic) at contemporary craft shows nationwide; (katerothrafleming.com). Based in Charleston SC and Golfito, Costa Rica, I am married to Frank Fleming ( f_fleming-ochoverde ). Growing up in Miami, FL, my mother, a writer and nature enthusiast, wrote books about the early Florida naturalists. We went on frequent trips into the everglades and remote FL researching these books and collecting FL tree snails. We always carried Petersons Field Guide with us so I started birding at a very young age.

I have always loved snakes, especially for their beauty; intricate textures, and patterns. After college, I served with the US Peace Corps as an Art Teacher for two years in Botswana Africa. During my free time I identified many species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. After completing my service I traveled throughout Africa, then India, Nepal. Recording my sightings in field guides, and journals, I enjoyed painting some of my favorites.

For the past 10 years we split our time between Charleston SC, and our rainforest farm/reserve Ochoverde, near Golfito, Costa Rica. Recently with restricted travel due to COVID, we have been exploring our own Charleston County with weekly trips to the Francis Marion National Forest just North of where we live.
