I joined iNaturalist because I was curious to see which insects people encounter across Tasmania to get a better idea of distributions and diversity. I also wanted to help identify species, though my opportunity to do so is quite variable. I am amazed by the detail people capture in their photos of close encounters. It is great to see photos of insects and spiders in action which is a contrast to much of my entomology work identifying, sadly, dead specimens, DNA work and ecology. I am an honorary curator of entomology at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery where my focus has been on beetles.

I am interested in all spiders and insects and have at times focused on beetles, ants, parasitic wasps and flies, native bees and some interesting Hemiptera. I am continually amazed by their diversity of intricate life history strategies and devious interactions.
