I am a native of Princeton, NJ (The Garden State) and former Aldo Leopold Distinguished Teaching Chair at the Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, NJ), where I directed the annual BioBlitz for the Lawrenceville School community (2016 to 2022).

I recently (January 2023) transitioned to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (Sarasota, FL) as a research botanist.

My research is mostly focused on the systematics (esp. taxonomy and phylogenetics) of the neotropical members of the flowering plant family Gesneriaceae. I have worked on projects that range from floristics to molecular phylogenetics, emphasizing the biodiversity of Cuba, Haiti, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.

My professional email is jclark@selby.org.
