Theodore Payne Foundation inspires and educates Southern Californians about the beauty and ecological benefits of California native plant landscapes.

While we preserve the legacy and carry on the work of Theodore Payne — a pioneering Los Angeles nurseryman, horticulturist, and educator widely consider to be the father of the native plant movement in California — our goal is to transform our region into sustainable, healthy communities. We do this by educating people about the role native plants play in the local ecology, their place in our gardens, and how everyone can take part in making Southern California more life sustaining.

Located on 22 acres of canyon land in the northeast corner of the San Fernando Valley, our native plant nursery, seed room, bookstore, art gallery, demonstration gardens, and hiking trails are open to the public year round. We offer classes for adults and families, field trips to TPF, at-school programs for youth and teachers, and outreach across the region. TPF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Come explore our community resource in the Verdugo Foothills and the story of our local environment.
