Oahu iNatters Happy Hour?

I'll be on Oahu next month for a friend's wedding and was hoping to meet up with some Hawaii iNatters to talk story and have a drink! Most of my trip is pretty busy but I think Sunday, February 20th is pretty free.

  • is that a date that would work? If so, what time would be good?
  • I'd like to meet up at an outdoor bar - COVID and all - any suggestions for a centrally located one? I'm so out of the loop on current Hawaii places.

Tagging some of the top active Oahu observers who I think actually currently live there: @davidr @kevinfaccenda @kyhlaustin @humu797 @tchakamaura @anuschka @spencer157 @monikaward @ronbrasher

UPDATE (2/28/22): here's a photo! From L to R: @tiwane, @davidr, @kevinfaccenda, @tchakamaura, @thiebaud. Thanks for coming everyone, I was great to meet you in person!

(Just noting we were outdoors and all patrons of the establishment had to either be vaccinated or have a negative test result)

I think I can make it if we meet in Honolulu, the 20th would probably work for me. Don't have a specific suggestion for bars myself.

also I think @thatplantguy may be on island now?

I also could probably come on the 20th, and do not have suggestions for bars. I'm in Honolulu, too.

Hi Tony - the 20th sounds good for me as well...mid-to-late afternoon is best but I'm flexible most days The Mai Tai bar at Ala Moana is the best I can come up with for "centrally located" and "outdoors". An abundance of free parking is available as well....elsewhere that can be a major challenge.

Cool, glad the date works for some folks! I'll do a little research on venues. Also feel free to tag others, I know I missed people.

Thanks for the invite, guys, but I can't attend. Enjoy!

A friend of mine suggested Aloha Beer in Kaka'ako - open air, food, drinks, with what expects would be pretty good free parking. How does 2 pm on Sunday, Feb 20th sound?

I'll bring iNat stickers!

I'll be there!

That works for me, although I am not aware of any free parking within a reasonable walking distance. The last time I went there, it was valet-parking only, on the roof behind the brewery. See you there!

My friend says Cooke Street should have free parking, hopefully thats the case!

Anyhoo, I'll be there at 2 pm wearing a green iNaturalist baseball cap.

How long do yall think you are going to stay? My friend invited me to do some mesic forest botany until around 3 so I might be a bit late

Posted by kevinfaccenda about 2 years ago

I'll try to stick it out until at least 4.

Posted by tiwane about 2 years ago

I'll come.

@tchakamaura awesome!

Everyone, just reminder that this is happening today at 2 pm! So far I believe that in addition to tchakamaura, @davidr, @thiebaud, and @kevinfaccenda said they can make it, but if anyone else can come, you're welcome to! I'll have iNat stickers to give away. I'll be the guy in the green iNaturalist cap.
