Immersive experience learning about traditional uses of seaweed in the Yuin Nation

Organised by South Coast Seaweed at Wimbie Beach Sat. 23 April 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Eventbrite link below)

The workshop is to revitalise knowledge around traditional uses of seaweed, much like bush tucker provided by the land, take a journey with us to learn about the ocean and the vast underwater ecosystems that have provided for the Yuin nation for thousands of years.
Special guests include Lynne Thomas chatting about Dreamtime stories in the Yuin Nation and the amazing Muladha Gamara who will be Welcoming us on country with traditional dancing and a smoking ceremony using seaweed.
Cultural beach walk identifying different local seaweeds and their traditional uses. Learn about the traditional way of life of the Yuin people and their spiritual connection to the country and the Saltwater.

Free Fisher Science Training Workshop – Conjola Creek: May 1, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Book now

Learn how to monitor the health of your waterway at Conjola Creek. Join OzFish on the Conjola Creek to learn how to complete a number of exciting monitoring activities that can tell us more about the health of this waterway and the types of animals it supports.

All necessary equipment and training will be provided on the day, so as long as you enjoy the outdoors, like learning new skills and meeting like-minded people, this day is for you. Lunch will be provided to volunteers. Please bring at least 2 litres of drinking water and wear long sleeves, long pants, a hat and sunscreen, enclosed shoes, and some shoes that can be wet if you wish to partake in waterbug sampling or help deploy the underwater cameras. The exact meeting location and parking instructions will be provided to those that register.

Registrations are essential to secure your spot.

Now that the seas are calmer and the rain has eased, you have till 30 April to contribute to the South Coast 6th Sea Slug Census. Post sightings on iNaturalist!
