Browser Entensions to Add Functions to iNaturalist

If you are a wildlife observer/recorder and use iNaturalist to upload your photos and to record your observations (and make them available for conservation etc.) then if you use Chrome as your browser (or a Chrome derivative (i.e. Edge, Brave, Opera, etc.)) then you can install 2 tools as extensions in your browser which help during your iNaturalist usage. These extensions are: 'iNaturalist Extension Suite' and 'Tools for iNaturalist' and they can both be downloaded from the Chrome Store.

Enjoy !!

Sadly, currently, Firefox is not supported and the ability to use Chrome extensions in Firefox has been removed.

User Names in iNaturalist

Data which reaches "Research Grade" in iNaturalist will be passed to iRecord in the NBN - UK's biological data verification process for inclusion of records in the NBN Species Atlas - https://nbnatlas.org/

During the UK Data Verification process it is necessary for the reviewers to be able to assign names of the recorders to the records so that they can have some understanding of the expertise of the individual recorder associated with the record they are looking at.

On iNaturalist many recorders/observers use 'nicknames' as their User Name instead of using their real/actual names; this makes it very difficult if not impossible for UK record verifiers to be certain of some records and as a consequence some data is unable to be used.

If you want your records to be usable within the UK can you please consider changing your User Name in iNaturalist to the following format: "forename_ surname".

Many thanks for your help in this matter.

Lancashire Invasive Non-native Species

The Lancashire Invasive Non-native Species (LKS INNS) project is a subset of 'Lancashire Key Species.'.

LKS INNS refers to species which are present within Lancashire but do not form part of the naturally occurring flora or fauna, and may actually have a negative impact upon it.

A number of iNaturalist guides have been prepared for LKS INNS. Go to: 'More' > 'Guides' and search for 'Lancashire Key Species' or go to: https://www.inaturalist.org/guides/10872.

Information on Lancashire Key Species (as well as the old Lancashire BAP list and criteria) is available on the LERN file share site at: https://ftps.lancashire.gov.uk/. Log in using the User name: 'LERNPublic' and the Password: 'mjf7t8qg'
