Butterflying the East Entrance to the Pend Oreille

On June 6, 2023 Carolee and I spent 4 hours birding and butterflying along the Pend Oreille. We started from the Nelway side and stopped at the bridge crossing. Spent two hours there, and had lunch. Massive Swallowtail puddling going on, including a couple of Two-tailed Swallowtails. We then drove up Limpid Creek Road to the open space. There were hundreds of butterflies, mostly Northern Checkerspots and Northern Crescents, but quite a lot of diversity as well. For the day, we logged 25 species.

Welcome to Butterflies of the Pend d'Oreille Valley

This project tracks butterfly sightings within the Pend d'Oreille region of southern British Columbia. The area of study follows the Pend d'Oreille River that parallels the northern border of the United States; the westernmost area of study being the Waneta Dam, and easternmost area of study being the Pend Oreille Road, via Nelway, British Columbia. NOTE: If you wish to contribute a sighting to "Pend d'Oreille Butterflies" you can join our project under Community/Projects. After joining, you can add sightings to the project via your Projects field.
