@sarahlloyd, thoughts?

@jameskm

According to this website, L. terrestre is a synonym of L. epidendrum:

Yeah, that is my cited source for it. It is a relatively big swap for myxos, though.

What's the process - do you simply go through all the observations and change them to L. epidendrum?
I had a look at one of the observations and I can't understand how it was identified as anything other than L. epidendrum.

I met Dr Dmitry Leontyev at the myxo conference (ICSEM10) in Costa Rica earlier this year. He suspects the Australian Lycogala is not epidendrum. A previous paper I've read suggests it's a species complex.

I mean, all I would have to do is click "commit" to change all IDs of L. terrestre to L. epidendrum. I did see that paper suggesting it was a complex, though, so I wasn't sure. Perhaps it is best for now to just lump everything in epidendrum.

I agree that they should all be in L. epidendrum. The website has the most authoritative and up to date information.

There's a note in the comments under L. epidendrum in the Myxos of NZ by Steven Stephenson (2003) that suggests the difference is in the colour of the plasmodium and spores, features that are rarely noted or are visible in posts on iNat. It also states that 'The distinction between the two forms has not been made in most previous studies.'

There is no reference to L. terrestre in Les Myxomycetes by Poulain et al., Die Myxomyceten by Neubert et al. or A guide to temperate Myxos by N.E. Nannenga-Bremekamp.
