In collaboration with the City Nature Challenge, the Knysna Eco Schools Challenge was created. The challenge will involve local schools and individuals from the coastal town of Knysna, Western Cape.
The challenge will be hosted in Pledge Nature Reserve, ideally located in the center of town. The reserve’s location makes it ideal for schools and visitors to visit the reserve after school or on weekends.
Pledge Nature Reserve is a 10ha reserve nestled in the town of Knysna. The reserve consists of three vegetation types; riverine thicket, thicket and fynbos. The reserve is situated in the Cape Floristic Region and boasts a total of 300 plant and 90 bird species, which makes the reserve an important role player for urban biodiversity in Knysna.
Our aim is to collaborate with iNaturalist and expose our natural world to the youth and people of Knysna.
The schools involved are:
• Oakhill School, Knysna
• Knysna High School
• Percy Mdala School
As well as “Friends of Pledge” (Individuals from Knysna wishing to participate in the event).
The group with the most observations will win a grand first prize.
