Description
No gland tipped hairs found, but I am not sure about the pedicels (photo 5). Prostrate canes, no root tipping evident, primocane about 4 ft long. Abundant in an old sandy field.

Description
note "skirt" of substantial-looking pendulous and "tortuous" branches along lower half of trunk, which is a characteristic typical of Ulmus thomasii and useful when present as a feature to differentiate from Ulmus americana. Also note "dome-like" crown and frost-ribs along trunk as typical features of Ulmus thomasii vs. e.g. other local Ulmus species
