Bases of florets with a hairy callus. Hairs on the lemma were not apparent (although they should be). Awn was ~15 mm.
North side of Peace River valley riparian, has massive poplar groves in the riverine habitat. Directly across the river from peace River Cabins and Outdoors. Take road directly north from Eaglesham, AB, then jog slightly west and then north up gravel road to bush trail down to the edge of river. Rutted. 4x4 or walk. 1.6 kms downhill. Steep.
Deciduous tree, up to 30m Deeply furrowed brownish bark. Sticky buds, fragrant with resin. Leaves 4-10cm long, Heart shaped at base, sharply pointed at tip. Fruit 2-valved smooth green capsules. Seed with tufts of cottony hairs-released mid to late June (from Plants of Western Boreal Forest & Aspen Parkland Kershaw et al.)
