Pretty shaggy blue flowers (20mm) on single stems 1.2 m high. Inflorescence (100mm) branched is on top of the stem. Stems and leaves are hairy. Stand has many plants which is 10s of meters in extent.
A serious invasive plant (Cara 1, Nemba 1b), and regarded as a priority for control.

Plants grow anchored on rocks in the fast-flowing current in rapids. Most of the plant is under water - but pieces are above - but being constantly wet by splashing. Grows in colonies of up to 5 m x 2 m. Fronds flattened and up to 35 cm long.
