I grew up in the Diablo Valley (Contra Costa Co, CA). My family farmed two acres of pears and ran a nursery and flower shop in Lafayette. I am a naturalist by training, having been a native plant landscaper over a period of 40 years, specializing in local natives. My garden in Berkeley is all local natives grown from seed and cuttings, and featured on the Bringing Back the Natives tour each May. Now retired, I am currently the organizer of the Skyline Gardens Project, sponsored by East Bay California Native Plant society. Since 2016, we do botanizing and restoration work every Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning, by permit from EBMUD, in land along the Skyline trail between Tilden Park and the Caldecott Tunnel. This is the most botanically diverse area of its size in the entire East Bay.
