Dan Rubianto, based in Summersville, WV

I graduated from West Virginia University in 2022 with a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources. I've always been interested in the natural world, but really refined my focus in college where I devoted my career to birds after assisting one of my professors on his bird banding research.

My career has allowed me to take many different experiences under my wing so far:

  • Present: I work as a Cerulean Warbler Biologist for the USDA-NRCS and WVDNR. Working to create management plans for private landowners interested in creating cerulean warbler habitat.
-2019 to 2023: I was an assistant bird bander for one of my wildlife professors. Studying the differences in fitness of birds along an urban/rural gradient and their responses to climate change.
-2022: I worked as an assistant seabird researcher based on Eastern Egg Rock, ME. During this time I helped monitor behavior and survival of breeding alcids and terns found on the island.
-2021: I worked as a summer nature instructor for the WV Botanic Garden in Morgantown, WV. I helped teach elementary aged kids about the importance of the different ecological systems and organisms found in the local environment.
-2020: I volunteered my time with the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia in Cheat Lake, WV. A raptor rehabilitation center involved in research, education, and rehabilitation.

I spend most of my time looking for birds. However, I try to learn about anything I encounter while outside.
