Big Bushfire Bioblitz feedback form

We wanted to say a huge thanks to you and everyone who has joined us at the Big Bushfire Bioblitz so far. Between the Blue Mountains and South Coast events, we've had over 100 participants, and thus far over 5200 observations across more than 1230 species!

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. If you'd like to let us know what you thought about the bioblitz, please fill out this quick form. Feedback will be anonymised.

Bioblitz wrap-up

The Blue Mountains Bioblitz is done and dusted!

It was certainly a very wet weekend, with almost constant rain and heavy fog over the three days, but we had a fantastic turnout with 40+ participants coming along. There were relatively slim pickings on the birds and herps front, but there were plenty of great plants and invertebrates on offer.

There are still observations being uploaded (and if you haven't already, remember to post your photos!), but as of writing there are 2216 observations in the project covering over 600 species! This number will only climb as more observations are ID'ed to species.

Some highlights:

The many 'hairy snails' we saw

The myriad red triangle slugs, which were always a point of excitement

8 different orchid species!

The bird-size moths that swooped down on Friday night to our moth sheet!

Unfortunately the Washpool/Gibraltar Ranges bioblitz for this weekend was called off due to the catastrophic flooding in northern NSW, but the third event at Murramarang NP on the south coast for 11-13 March is still on. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Getting ready for the bioblitz!

Hi all,

Looking forward to this weekend's blitz. Despite the dodgy weather, the blitz will still be running at this point. If it looks like we'll get bad thunderstorms, however, we may have to postpone it, so we'll keep everyone updated.

We now have a schedule for this weekend; check it out here. We've got heaps of amazing people onboard, so it will be a great opportunity to learn from the experts.

Remember that you don't have to add your observations to the project manually; as long as you upload an observation normally within the defined area, it will be included.

One thing that will be helpful though is adding the observation field 'Big Bushfire Bioblitz: burnt or unburnt?' to your observations. All you have to do for each observation is search for that text string under the observation fields menu, and then select either 'burnt' or 'unburnt' from the dropdown depending on which area you were in. If you're unsure, don't worry about filling it out and we can do it for you :)

Feel free to ask me or @alpine_flora_of_australia if you have any questions.
