Description

For years, I had wanted to see one of the places that monarch butterflies migrate to for overwintering. As I was in Mexico in December, I took a bus to Michoacán and booked a trip to El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. My guide and I walked up the trail into the mountains. I started to see a few butterflies here and there, and then I suddenly had the realization that the trees were covered in them. The branches were drooping under the weight of all those butterflies. Plenty were also flying in the sky and landing on the ground. For a while, my guide and I were the only two people there, and only a few more showed up, so it was quite tranquil.
