Thanks to James Stacy for suggesting an ID! I was initially perplexed by this spider as it resembled Hexathele, but appeared to only have four spinnerets. I subsequently acquired a close-up photograph of this species and realised that it does indeed have six spinnerets, one pair is just tiny! 🕷️

This is third one that I have found outside one of our hives. This one was in Burnside and the other sitings were in Lincoln. It looks and sounds like a bee and had been clearly Ina fight with guard bees outside the hive which suggests it is wanting food. I would like to know what it is. Shiny round abdomen, wing, buzzed when I moved it.

Now in the RBCM collection
Original record here: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/206356244
Species ID confirmed with epigynum.
This is a first BC and Canadian record of this spider documented by a specimen. Nice work on noticing that it was different from our much more common Larinioides.

Description
Lepidoptera survey of Te Ahu Patiki / Mt Herbert. Day-flying moths searched for around the top in tussock grassland, damp areas, and rocky bluffs. Night work done on forest fragments on the northern slopes between My Herbert and Mt Bradley. Forest fragments consisted of kowhai, totara, narrow-leaved lacebark, ribbonwood, amongst others. A diverse range of vines and lots of tree nettle (Urtica ferox) - a wonderful plant that supports many moth species - oh, and the red admiral. A stunning diversity of Lepidoptera and would love to return. Many thanks to Te Ahu Pātiki Charitable Trust.
