This fungus appeared in June before disappearing but two days before this photo was taken the leaves started drying up, and the bark of the Lacebark Elm started developing massive cracks, and then i saw this patch of mold in the outer tree ring, it killed another Lacebark that was in our front yard too.

Snake Fungal Disease (Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola)

Observer

Date

November 2020

Description

First occurrence of species detection at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Fungal species presence upon Crotalus adamanteus determined by official investigation through USGS. Snake was observed along trail, and a photograph was sent to me. I noted the malform head, and determined the snake was potentially innoculated with SFD. Rehab was attempted by local wildlife facility, but snake expired two days later.
