Description

It's an awful picture of a really cool little plant. It is native to the Southeast, but Linnaeus mistakenly gave it the name "chinensis" for whatever reason. (According to the rules of nomenclature, such mistakes are not grounds for renaming anything.) Here it is growing in considerable abundance, scarcely any higher than 2 inches, on the mud, below cord-grass and other marsh plants, along Cuckohold Creek. It was low tide. Notice the drying silt/mud. During high tide, the little plants are completely submerged. What a life!
