Calycina nov. sp., (family Mordellidae) found on my cloud forest property, Cosanga, Napo, Ecuador, ~2100 meters elevation. This was a puzzling find, at first identified as a member of family Meloidae, but when Mordellidae specialist Enrico Ruzzier saw the photos, he said, "Oooh this is the holy grail of Mordellids," identifying it as a 99% likely new species of Calycina. It was a shock to me that the family included members this large. Specimen will most probably be loaned out to Ruzzier for description.
