♀ draught in a pool, 3.vi.2019. Total length: 13.7 mm. HEAD: Antenna with 47 segments in the left antenna and 46 in the right antenna; scape, pedicel and 44-45 flagellar segments; antenna dorsally white from flagellar segment 10 to 16 (the 16th basally). First flagellomere: 1.91x; 2nd flagellomere 1.65x; 9th to 16th flagellomeres square; broadest flagellomere: 0.54 times longer than wide (=1.8 times wider than long). Flagellum-eye index (ratio of the length of the first and second flagellomeres to the length of the eye): 0.53. Temples behind the eyes narrowed more or less parallel or slightly rounded. Frons densely rugose-punctate (punctures connected by wrinkles) centrally or with transverse wrinkles. Genal carina meeting the hypostomal carina distinctly away from the base of the mandible. Face and clypeus differentiated by different sculpture, being the lower face rugose and the clypeus more smooth. Clypeus flat and with a bisinuate margin. Mandible bidentate. Gena-eye index (ratio of the maximum width of the gena and eyes, seen laterally): 1.17. Ocellar index (ratio of the diameter of the lateral ocelli to their distance from the eyes): 1.0, Malar index (ratio of the length of the malar space to the width of the mandible base, measured focusing on the mandibular base): 0.52. Head mostly black, except linear stripes on inner and outer orbits and two triangular spots near vertex and behind the compound eyes, yellow; mandibles partly reddish. MESOSOMA: Mesoscutum punctured, smooth in between. Postscutellum with basal foveae. Propodeum: Propodeum evenly rounded across the line of the costulae. Area basalis never with a sharp, anterior, median tooth. Area superomedia broader than long. Dentiparal area always with the posterior carina distinct. Lateral carina of the petiolar area at most as long as the costula. Spiracles strongly elongate, slit-shaped. Mesosoma black except the following parts that are marked with ivory: a dorsal line on the pronatal collar (collum), the hind corners of the pronotum and the middle of the subtegular carinae. LEGS: 3rd segment of mid tarsi 1.4x longer than wide. Hind coxa with a scopa on the distal 0.4x. Hind coxae next to the scopula with a large, little punctured spot, as long as and more than twice as wide as the scopula. Hind femora 3.2 times as long as high. Claws simple, not pectinate. All coxae and trochanteres black. Trochantellus of mid and hind legs partly reddish. Femora and tibiae on fore legs red, those on mid and hind legs mostly red. Tarsi mostly brown. METASOMA: T1: Petiolus of first tergite not flattened, at base approximately square in cross-section. Spiracles of first tergite removed from apex of tergite a distance lesser than distance between spiracles. Side fields of the postpetiolus narrow, 0.6x as wide as the middle field this with 8 longitudinal stripes T2: Second tergite 0.75x as long as wide. Gastrocoelus deep; thyridiae about as wide as the space between them; thyridia index (ratio of breadth of a thyridia to the interval between the thyridiae, thyridiae measured with metasome rotated to have thyridia on the same focal plane): 0.98. Gaster red from the 2n segment onwards, including the edge of the 1st tergite. First segment excluding the apical edge, black. REMARKS: Determination following Tereshkin 2009 from subfamily to tribe and Perkins 1959 from subfamily to genus. Species approach following Horstmann 2002 and Riedel 2012, also Berthomieu 1894. There were some important differences in the features between the species description (Riedel 2012, based on a single female) and what was observed: the number of segments, 44/45 flagellar segments instead of 46-47; malar index of 0.52 instead of 0.25; scopa about 0.4x the coxae length and not 0.25x; middle field of postpetiolus with 8 longitudinal stripes instead of 13-14. Other measurements explained above are not so different and can be dued to individual variation.

Definitely the best find of the day and such a cool wasp. It looks so distinctive it should be easy to ID but a quick search did not turn anything up but I will look more.
