Being eaten by a Giant Asian Mantis
Predated by Holconia immanis, Sparassidae
Wasp predating on a stick insect. Saw the wasp on a path and stopped on it then saw the stick insect after
This wasp was eating some sort of long green insect. I thought it was a caterpillar but perhaps it was a stick insect?
Found the three eggs shells in small hollow in foliage on a bank above a bush access road. Photos 4&5 show the eggs in situ. Looks like a dead stick insect in the leaf litter as well. Eggs maybe predated? This area has regular pest control, baiting and trapping.
Stick insect attacked by a paper wasp. Back end bitten off. Unlikely to survive. Probably the same stick insect observed on this small guava bush Dec 20 & Dec 25:
Found in spider web under mixed exotic/macadamia spp hedge
Found in my van after putting in some firewood logs. Firewood was kowhai, exotic conifer and some other fast growing exotic.
Released back onto native vegetation
It was swaying in the wind, even though there was not wind in the van.
Field Notes - Found on the road when driving home. A magpie was attacking him. i pulled up to see why the magpie was interested in the stick. Not a stick. Moved him to the side of the road to avoid cars. Magpie may come back but such is nature
Being attacked in abdomen by two wasps while very much alive. To lay eggs?
Sighting and photos (c) green_eggs_and_ham.
Field Notes - Beautiful phasmid who was being attacked by birds! We think he's a male. Would love to know the species. Has a nice set of yellow and purple (?) wings and can fly a bit.
Sighting and photos (c) mark3.
Field Notes - It was just attacked by a bird which is why we saw it. It seems about 25-30cm long
Didn't realise when I picked it up a battle for survival was going on as a large water skink was attacking this big insect.
Being attacked by yellowjacket
A Walkingstick being attacked by some sort of true bug. There is a duplicate observation for the bug.

Predated on by wasp

This specimen was over 20cm long and infested with some kind of sucking insect.
Rock Creek Park, Washington, DC, USA.
Common under concrete block lying in wasteland near Chatham William Innia Tuuta Airport car park.
Common in rough pasture and fernland.
Not sure about the identification. Found in artificial Chatham Island Petrel burrow, associated with numerous weta. A large spider measuring c.90 mm in length. Rather reddish to my colour blind eyes. Such spiders are habitually called on this island Cambridgea annulata - so I place it here and await others conclusions. I did see sheet web spiders commonly on their webs the island at night and they sort of looked like this. This particular spider is reputed to have a painful bite.
I think that the prey is a Brown Shield Bug!
Attacked by wasps
Rescued a live stick insect being attacked by Vespula wasps on leaf litter in native bush.
Noticed on track as it was trying to defend itself from attack by a wasp. Amazed at how flexible it was when it curved the hind part of its abdomen around into a 'scorpion-like' posture to dislodge the wasp which was on its back.
Help with species ID would be appreciated please.
Stick insect was repeatedly attacked by a wasp, but managed to scramble up the kanuka to safety.
A wasp was attacking this phasmid
The stick insect I rescued from a Vespula wasp. Also see my observation of the attack in progress.
We found so many stick insects in this stream, a number worse for wear. Is this a parasite?
male and female stick insects mating on NZ flax. Clitarchus sp?? Female has 2 red protuberances, 1 each end of body, on 1 side only - tubercles? parasites? injuries? I have more photos; this is the most comprehensive with best focus.

Green stick insect found on Metrosideros perforata. A mite was also found on it.
On cultivated apple tree (Malus Xdomestica). Note mite on thorax behind foreleg.
This was funny. A fledgling tui was begging and waiting for food. Finally an adult brought it a big stick insect, but then had a lot of trouble getting it into the fledgling's mouth. Insect was probably wriggling around. Adult nearly dropped it a couple of times. (Apologies for poor quality images.)
A second tui fledgling close by was also being fed by an adult.
smashing what appears to be a yellow and orange stick insect (what type?) against a branch, the begging juvenile off to the right.
Robin in the wattle track. This little robin had an insect in its beak - a moth maybe. It didn't stop to eat it but flew off with it - so it was probably going back to a nest.
Sparrow killing and eating a NZ Grasshopper
Cryptic colourations and quick to assume "stick-like" postures when disturbed (see photo #4)
Some kind of stick insect? Probably fell off the tree on our deck after it was injured by something.
I thought the two-legged stick insect caught in a spider web was dead, but found it 6 hours later on the house wall! Native bush surrounding the property.
One of many in the manuka along the wilderness trail
