Three short bursts of sound. (Sort of “coo-coo-coo.”)

First call is far off.
Second goes up in pitch and harsh on the third “coo.”
Third is far off again.

Merlin bird ID app doesn’t recognize it as a bird so I’m uncertain of whether it’s a bird or mammal. (Far too cold for anything else here right now at 0.5° celsius (33F).

If it’s not a bird, my initial guess would be maybe fox.
After posting, whatever it is changed its call pacing. More irregular, 3-5 bursts per call, and more variation of pitch.
I wonder if it’s possible that it’s a Fisher Cat?

There seem to be possibly two creatures calling back and forth.

Description

This plant commonly called "bluebeard" first made an appearance a few years ago in my garden, not sure where it came from, not planted by me and I've lived here 20+ years. Plant height is at least 3.5' and now there are several growing together.
Interesting that iNaturalist still wants to ID this as Blue Curls Trichostema dichotomum and that this plant has only been observed by 5 others on iNat in the US. The leaves also have the musty smell typical with Tripora divaricata.
There is a great description of this plant on FloraFinder.org, run by Tom Kent:
Bluebeard is a perennial native to Japan, Korea, and China. It is the only member of the genus Tripora. It can be grown in many North American climates, and may be a garden escapee in some areas. It prefers well-drained soils with average moisture. Its showy flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other desirable insects.

PLANTS: Plants reach up to 5' (1.5 m) in height. Stems are covered with fine hairs.

LEAVES: Leaves are toothed, ovate to oblong, with a strong, somewhat unpleasant scent, especially when crushed. It has variously been described as “musty,” “pungent,” or even “like rotting fish.”

FLOWERS: Flowers are blue-purple, occurring in terminal and axial clusters on long, sinuous branched petioles. Each flower has long white curved stamens tipped with yellow anthers, and five lobes, including a prominent bottom lobe that is white with blue spots (or, if you prefer, blue with white spots). Flowers appear from August to September.

FRUITS: The base of each flower develops four spherical seed pods, each about ¹/₁₆" (2 mm) in diameter.
