He never left!
Almost certainly the same fellow as: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/22128544 who I thought I'd guided safely to freedom early in the morning. But he apparently hid successfully in the study all day. Then, just as the clouds rolled in again and the sky darkened at about 4 pm, he began buzzing furiously at the north window. His vigor is amazing. I quickly grabbed his up-folded wings at the first opportunity and carried him outside. Only managed one quick shot - his acceleration to freedom totally defeated my continuous shoot ..!
