They female flowers have opened up at last! Actually, I only spotted one female flower in the 10 minutes of scanning the shrub - somehow, luckily or magnetically, I noticed that single flower almost instantly.

Description
This is a an observation of the same tree as the one made on February 17, 2023. There is more information included in this observation. The winter buds are definitely from this tree and there is leaf litter from around the base of the tree.

Description
The leaves appear to break off, leaving slanted tears. Stems solid vs Phragmites, which has hollow stems (see last couple of photos). Stem get progressively thicker towards the bottom.

Description
A pale crust possessing a wrinkled surface with clear circular, concentric ridges showing. The interior of the crust is tawny or pale beige and the outer margins are white. The crust is made up of conjoined, circular islands and some isolated islands. While mostly effused, the crust also shows some reflexed caps, which are pale beige and hairy. Growing on a hardwood stick. White spore print.
