In coast live oak and bay laurel duff. Cap velvety when young, opening into somewhat broad appressed scales. Cap remaining mostly conical. Stipe texture same as cap. Densely matted cobwebby basal tomentum with rhizomorphs extending from the cobwebby material. Gills with pink hue even when young.

Description

Host is an unidentified insect larvae, found growing from the cut end of a well decayed and wet log (Silver fir seems most likely but almost completely debarked) The part of the log it was in was the lowest, wettest sector of the log on the downhill end.

Description

Rodent digs found throughout the area exclusively under chamise. Manzanita also present, and interior live oak within 100 feet, but digs were only under chamise. Digging revealed that the mycelial mat that truffles were found in and smelled the same dissipated with distance from chamise. Melanogaster also mixed in and more abundant. Parts of the mycelial mat smelled like Melanogaster and parts smelled like these -- distinctly of oil paint. Woodrat nest about 8 feet away.

On the underside of a piece of bark in Hesperocyparis sargentii and Quercus durata forest. Yellow and brown cobwebby crust fungus, margins extending into a whitish fuzzy network, hymenium chocolate brown with yellow tinges at the edges. Texture surprisingly stretchy but fragile and easily folded, not solidly attached to the substrate.

Strange, cordyceps-like fungus with two sporocarps emerging from a white, mycelial "cocoon" buried underneath the surface of the soil. Sporocarps like little bulbous clips, covered din a white, cracking tissue. No in-tact insect body detected, but some spherical chitinous remains of what seems to be of insect origin were found

Description

Growing in edge-riparian pine forest on ultramafic soil. Pileus yellow, flat to ruffled and uplifted at margin, K-. Lamellae dingy brown, free to narrowly attached. Stipe whitish, with rusty-brown spore covered cortina remnants and a spade-shaped base.

Description

Growing from a shed piece of sugar pine bark. Pileus deep shaggy blue, rounded. Lamellae whitewith extremely subtle pale blue margins, widely attached to subdecurrent, UV+ pale ghost green. Stipe blue, whitish towards the base.

Description

Emerging from side dead conifer, possible Jeffrey pine.
Secotioid agaric with shape of squashed baseball. Cap slimy, orange-yellow with fibrillose reddish brown scales. Gills grayish brown, wrinkled, looking like meat. Stipe well-developed but squat; white with reddish brown scales. Thick partial veil, becoming separated in older specimens but cap margins still very close to stipe (not opening).
Odor woody. KOH+ pink.

Wash. In shade under Salix, emerging from woody debris and alluvial soil.
Cap orange-brown, darker at center, plane, gently umbonate. Gills dull orange. Stipe reddish brown, lighter on upper 1/4.
KOH red. Not UV reactive.
