One ticket for Barbie please
Why is it color green? Update, looked for hours multiple days after the 13th of August in Oak Openings with no luck, as I figured. Sent photos to some universities trying to gain some knowledge.
about the 5th or 6th Ohio record; present 4-5 days. A subadult seen a few days earlier and in seeking that bird I found this adult. This bird was enjoyed by 35 or so as it proved elusive. I never did relocate the immature bird.
Butterfly was seen at the Nature Conservancy's Kitty Todd Preserve
A first for my property if this is indeed a Marine blue. Wings coppery brown above with indigo bases. Nectaring on clover. Woohooo!!! #78 for my sanctuary! And it may be Ohio’s first well-documented record.
Cassius Blue Butterfly. This is a butterfly that is from the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America and is seen in Florida and Texas. They were probably brought into Cincinnati as caterpillars on plants from a nursery from way down south. Open wing shots are a male on the left and female on the right.
There were 3, possibly 4. Same location as 2020 sighting.
This was the first state record for the species in Ohio. This picture is a slide-scan; I didn't have a digital camera at the time. Here are some links re. documentation:

This was a lifer for me. First time I've ever seen this species. It's shaping up to be a great spring for butterflies.
