Feeding on crustacean (crab or crayfish). In corner of old concrete stock tank with no outlet — prey may have been caught and unable to climb out.
Note sure if the lack of a bill was from an injury/attack, or from a disease during growth. This bird looked healthy and had no problems catching moths.
Had to keep this one on the down-low for awhile
Incredible battle over a prairie dog. When I spotted, Ferruginous (separate observation) was standing to the right. Mostly these two redtails fought while I watched but another 2+ redtails circled, made low passes, and landed. Also what I believe is a harlan's hawk (separate observation) stopped by. Of course magpies too.
one of two kittens hanging on gate watching mom hunt across road.
Apparently this grebe tried to swallow a fish that was too big and it choked to death.
@jnstuart could this be an American Stoat?
First one I've seen in the neighborhood.
Snake on the Beach! No signs of turtles today but a copperhead going for a swim. We don't think it's going to last long. It was almost a foot in length.
This pair came up on my back porch to get to the water (bird) bowl. Assume they were mother and adolescent. Marked decrease in local birds after sighting.
Turns out the immature is the female.

Trying to figure out what species of Salamander this is. New Mexico only has three and I know it’s not the Tiger Salamander. Any idea if it is a Sacramento Mountain or a Jemez Mountain?
